Trance During the state of "Trance" Terra's attack, magic attack, and physical defense are increased by 1.5x. This was changed from the original game at a 2x increase. The duration is increased for every spell she knows up to a value of 128 and is doubled past this once Humbaba is defeated in the World of Ruin. Shock Once you obtain the accessory "Zeidrich", Terra can use "Shock" over "Trance". "Shock" is a non-elemental damage attack to all targets with a 128 effect value. |
|
Due to the decreased learn-rate of Eidolon's magic spells, Terra has an advantage to learning stronger spells much faster from natural leveling. She can use Swords and Knight Swords as well as Helmets, Hats, Robes, and Armor. Along with this she can also learn magic spells from various equipment. Even though "Trance" has been slightly weakened, if you increase your Magic stat and attack the enemy's weakpoints you'll notice a very large increase in damage. |
| Riot Blade | |

Effect Value: 65 Additional effect: Disease. A special technique where the user channels magic into their sword and releases it in a shockwave, dealing non-elemental damage and ignoring defense. This now deals extra damage to flying units and sets Disease. |

Steal Allows you to steal an enemy's items. If the outcome isn't above 70 from the formula, you won't steal 100% of the time. User's Level+70-Target's Level/99 You can double the chance of stealing by equipping the accessory "Thief's Bracer". Mug When you equip the accessory "Thief's Glove", "Steal" becomes "Mug". This allows you to attack and steal at the same time. The formula for the damage calculation of this attack ingores the weapon's properties, however, any additional effect magic will remain. |
|
In the original game, Locke could equip Swords, Knight Swords, Helmets, and Armor. However, this makes very little sense given that he's a thief. I've changed it so now he can only use items flagged as Daggers, Swords, some Knight Swords, Hats, and Clothes, basically any light armor. Although Daggers have a very low attack power, it makes up for this with giving high Evasion, and one of the 12 ultimate weapons, Orichalcum, has its power increase based on the number of successful "Steal" results. Also, the boomerang/throwing weapons don't have their power changed if you're in the back row. |
| Mirage Dive | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 178 Additional effect: Steal. The user performs a great leap at the enemy with many illusions of themselves, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. As an extra bonus, "Steal" may sometimes activate, but it's not a 100% chance at the item. |

Iaido Align the gauge with the number to select which attack you'd like. The speed that the gauge moves has been greatly increased from the original game. Katanas are required to use "Iaido". Without one you're not able to use this. Although you can learn "Flower" at Level 99 more than likely you'll have it unlocked via the event before that happens. →Iaido List |
|
Cyan's a strong front line attacker that can equip Katanas, Helmets, and Armor, granting him high attack and defense, but at the cost of magic evasion and magic defense. Due to how good "Fang" was in the original game the performance of it has been lowered so that a normal attack isn't always outclassed by it. The techniques "Dragon", which can absorb HP and MP of an enemy, and "Moon", which can cause Stop, are very useful now. |
| Tsubame Gaeshi | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 185 Additional effect: Sometimes procs "Zantetsuken". A secret technique used at the brink of death, where the user executes a single lightning-fast slash, causing a brilliant flash of light, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect, the wound caused from this slice may instantly kill the enemy, undead included. |

Throw Throw weapons to deal defense-ignoring damage that also ignores row. The amount of damage dealt is based on Strength with accessories like "Gigas Glove" increasing their effect. Ninjutsu items can cast various magic spells with additional effects. The damage for ninjutsu is affected by Magic with accessories like "Earrings" increasing the effect further. →Throw List |
|
As a change to how Shadow should've appeared, all Ninjato now possess the "Dual Wield" (Genji Glove effect) ability. However, since Ninjato are weaker, and Genji Glove's effect's damage output is now 0.75% per hand, try using accessories to buff physical attack. "Throw" uses items, but it's a very powerful way to attack. Not only can you use defense and row-ignoring attacks, but the magic attacks and buffs (self only) cost no MP. Also with about a 1/3 chance, Interceptor will parry an attack, then with a very high chance make a counterattack with Shadow called "Twin Fang". Interceptor is extremely useful in avoiding physical attacks now. In the original game Shadow would at random chance leave the party if you hired him. This has been removed, so please enjoy. Finally, when escaping from the Floating Continent, Shadow will now immediately reappear as you reach the airship and can no longer be left behind to die. →Other List |
| Shadow Fang | |

Effect Value: 162 Additional effect: Poison. A special technique where the user runs through the dark soundless, making cuts as they go, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect, Poison is applied. |
| Edgar |
Machinist |
![]() ![]() |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Tools Edgar uses various tools for many different types of attacks. In the original game the attacks would always land if the enemy wasn't resistant, which would cause problems due to how they set the hit rate. The machinery that relies on physical damage is affected by Strength, where as the ones relying on magical damage are affected by Magic. The more powerful machinery items are expensive and also can be found as drops from enemies. →Tools List |
|
Edgar can equip Swords and Spears as his weapons of choice. The stat increases are decent, but later on you can focus on using "Tools" exclusively. Also since he can use spears, it's compatible for use with the accessory "Dragoon Boots" and later the Multi-Jump accessory "Dragon Horn". As an additional bonus, if Edgar is your leading character when talking to shop owners in Figaro Castle or South Figaro, you'll receive a 1/2 off discount. |
| Royal Shock | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 66 Additional effect: Sleep. A secret royal technique where the user sends a shockwave rising up from around the enemy's feet, dealing non-elemental damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect, the target is put to sleep. |

Brawler |
![]() ![]() |

||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Blitz "Blitz" attacks are entered like combo moves in fighting games. In the original game these would always land and problems would arise if the hit rate was changed. Another problem was you could never select your target; it was always random. The physical damage attacks are based on your Strength value while the magical ones are based on Magic. Although you can learn "Phantom Rush" from leveling, it's more than likely you'll unlock it via the event first. →Blitz List |
|
Sabin can use Claws and Staves as his choice weapons. He has high Strength and Speed, but his Magic is extremely low. "Blitz" offers physical, magical, and recovery techniques, which are extremely powerful/useful just like in the original game. He's also one of the few to naturally hit 9999 HP. His one downside is his equipment options are rather low, as well as his Magic stat and his MP. |
| Tiger Break | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 190 Additional effects: Death. An ultimate finishing move where the user launches themselves with a tiger's fighting spirit at the enemy, mauling them, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. "Death" is sometimes activated as an additional effect. |
| Celes |
Rune Knight |
![]() ![]() |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Runic Runic allows Celes to null one enemy's spell and absorb the MP cost of it to heal her own MP. However, the draw back to this is while Runic is activated, using any other action with her will cancel Runic. Also, there's some magic she can't absorb so be careful. Runic can only be used when equipped with Swords or Knight Swords. Pray By equipping the accessory "Maiden's Prayer", "Runic" becomes "Pray". This is the same ability Banon uses in the original game, however, it's been modified so it will never be reflected (Banon's ability was literally just Cura, this is why it's been fixed to not be reflectable). |
|
Like Terra, Celes also learns various spells upon leveling up. Compared to Terra, Celes learns more offensive spells. Celes mainly uses Swords, Dark Swords, and Knight Swords as her weapons of choice. In the original game some weapons like Ultima Weapon were able to use "Runic" despite not being set to do so. For the first half of the game Runic is useful for recovering MP, but in the later half it becomes incredibly useful for locking out an enemy's spells. Please take note of this. "Pray" is useful now due to being able to go through Reflect. However, the healing effect may be low, but it can be useful for emergency due to its speed and free cost. |
| Moulin Rouge | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 175 Additional effect: Extra damage to humans. A violent technique where the user repeatively slashes at the enemy causing blood to fly everywhere, with a crimson rose scattering across the battlefield, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect human enemies take more damage. This effect was changed along with the name of the attack. |
| Strago |
Blue Mage |
![]() ![]() |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Blue Magic Strago's unique ability is Blue Magic which allows him to learn enemy techniques. In order to learn spells Strago must "see" the attack while in a normal state. That's to say he can't be petrified, blinded, slept, stopped, zombied, confused, berserked, or dead, but he doesn't also have to personally be hit with the spell either. As long as the attack goes off and he's not any of these statuses, he'll learn it once the battle ends. Also, if you meet these conditions and then Strago dies, he can still learn it, as long as he saw the spell while in a normal state. There's many different spells not used normally by other characters making some of these very useful. →Blue Magic List |
|
A real mage. Strago has the best Magic stat out of everyone and he prefers Rods as his weapon of choice. "Blue Magic" is extremely good. Not only can you learn via enemies using the abilities, but also if Gau uses it with "Rage" or Relm with "Sketch". His MP growth is super high, however, his HP growth is rather low. |
| Saber Soul | |

Sketch Paints an exact copy of an enemy and uses its special attack as your own. The effect of this attack is now based off Relm's stats rather than the enemy's. 3/4 of the time you'll get the enemy's special attack, but new to T-Edition you'll now have a 1/4 chance to trigger "Wishing Star", a new ability for Relm. Sketch can now be used even without a Brush equipped. Brushes now increse the accuracy of Sketch working. →Other List Spirit When using the accessory "Embroidered Tippet", "Sketch" now becomes "Spirit". This ability gives a party-wide small MP restoral. Due to how important MP is now, this is a very useful ability in longer battles. |
|
Like Terra and Celes, Relm now also learns magic naturally at various levels. She fills in the spell list these two are missing (Thunder spells, etc). Relm's weapons of choice besides Brushes are Rods, Whips, and Bells. "Sketch" costs no MP and is useful if you know what the enemy's special attack will be. Also, "Wishing Star" may proc 1/4 of the time, calling in Interceptor to help. On some enemies "Sketch" will fail to work, so in this case it may be better to use "Spirit". |
| Star Prism | |

Effect Value: 63 Additional effect: Toad. Mysterious secret stars that protects Relm with its glow, erasing any threats, dealing non-elemental damage, and ignoring defense. As an additional effect, Toad is also cast on the enemy. |

Slots Roll the Slots and land 3 of the same picture to get a special technique. The chance of success for each outcome is set and powerful ones are very hard to get, with landing all 3 even with perfect timing sometimes just won't happen. Although the chance of 777's "Joker Death" is extremely low, if you manage to get it, it will bypass all death resistance and kill even bosses. →Slots List Gil Toss By equipping the accessory "Heiji's Jitte", "Slots" becomes "Gil Toss". The amount of Gil consumed is Level x 180/2. It doesn't reduce the damage based on targets like in the original game and can't miss. It will also bypass any defense. While "Slots" is random, "Gil Toss" isn't and will allow you to deal static damage at the cost of Gil. |
|
Setzer's weapons of choice are Dice, Darts, and Cards, basically gambler-like items. Dice mostly are a random damage attack much like "Slots". Since Setzer can attack freely from the back row, his defenses are solid despite he can only wear light armor. Not to mention Cards and Darts have increased damage towards flying enemies. |
| Bloody Cards | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 140 Additional effect: Absorbs HP. An ultimate trump card where the user unleashes throwing cards in their own blood to absorb an enemy's HP, dealing physical damage, and ignoring defense. As an additional effect, Setzer absorbs the HP of the damage dealt. The effect was changed to red to match the name "Bloody Cards". |
| Mog |
Moogle Knight |
![]() ![]() |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Dance Mog performs one of eight unique dances, each with four abilities that have a varying chance to be used over the other. To master a specific "Dance" Mog must be in the party and win a battle in that specific background (desert, mountains, etc). If you change the background with another "Dance" you won't learn that specific dance for that battle. In T-Edition "Dance" now only lasts 1 action before you can pick something new to do. It will also no longer fail. →Dance List Animal When using the accessory "Pheasant Netsuke", "Dance" becomes "Animal". With this ability Mog can call one of the random animals from his dances to assist the party. Normally these are a very low chance of procing off "Dance". |
|
Mog's "Dance" ability has undergone a huge change from the original making it more like "Gaia" from FF5. His main choice of weapons are Spears, but he can now also use the new weapon, Bells. Despite his looks Mog is a strong physical attacker especially with "Jump" via the accessory "Dragoon's Boots". In order to recruit Mog in the WoB you have to choose between saving him or Lone Wolf the Pickpocket. Saving the latter gives a "Gold Hairpin", but you lose Mog until the WoR. Since you can learn "Water's Harmony" in the WoR now I'll never force Mog into your party in the WoB, although he'd be useful for the Floating Continent with "Sunbath" for party-wide healing or "Cliff Collapse" for non-elemental damage. As you get further into the game "Dance" may start to lose its appeal, so switching to "Animal" is suggested. Each animal's skills are very useful, such as "Tapir" for party-wide Reraise, "Snow Bunny" for party-wide HP restore and Blink, and "Meerkat" for party-wide Protect, Shell, Haste, and Regen. |
| Moogle Dance | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 168 Additional effect: Confuse. A secret technique passed down in the Moogle tribes taught to only 1 child, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect it also sets Confuse. The effect animation has been changed to "Phantom Rush". |
| Gau |
Feral Youth |
![]() ![]() |

||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Rage Mimics the enemy you select. Not only do you use their attacks, but your weaknesses, absorbs, status conditions, etc are just as theirs are. "Rage" is somewhat difficult to use/master, because you're locked into whatever enemy you take until either the battle ends or Gau is killed (or later on using Unicorn to remove Rage status). However, you have access to some very strong attacks early in the game and at the end also. →Mato Rage List or →English Rage List |
|
In the original game Gau couldn't equip any weapons normally. This has been changed so he can now use Claws and Axes, as well as "Fight", which he was incredibly lacking before if you didn't want him to use "Rage". In the Rage Menu outside of battle, you can now see the special technique of each "Rage". Remember which are useful, then use whatever you'd like in battle. Originally, "Leap" worked by you'd only learn the attacks of the enemies you used it on and the group you beat as Gau returned. This is no longer the case. "Leap" has been deleted and you can now simply learn all "Rage" abilities anywhere in the game as long as Gau's in the party. Enjoy! Gau has a great offensive abilitiy with high HP, but low MP. To counter this he's been given high Magic and it's suggested to increase his low MP by using "Soma Drop" items on him. |
| Wild Buster | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 178 Additional effect: Petrify. An attack where the user grabs the enemy and leaps high up into the air, then slams them into the ground with a falling rock adding to the damage as well, dealing physical damage and ignoring defense. As an addition effect this sets Petrify. This is a new technique that wasn't in the original game as Gau didn't have a Desperation Attack. The animation used is "Suplex". |
| Gogo |
Mime |
![]() ![]() |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Mimic This ability allows you to copy almost any action the last party member executed. The only things you can't Mimic are "Trance" and a Desperation Attack. Even if you "Mimic" a magic spell, Blue Magic, or use an item, it won't consume MP or the item used. |
|
The ability to "Mimic" the last action of a party member for free is extremely powerful. To offset this Gogo has fairly low stats. His weapons of choice are Rods, various types of the Sword classes, and Whips. For armor his selection is limited to Clothing or light armor. As another bonus to Gogo he can equip the commands of any party member. He can replace Fight, Magic, and Item with whichever you'd like. The only things he can't use are "Trance" and any ability of a party member not yet recruited in the WoB (Mog for example if you missed him in the WoB you must get him in the WoR before Gogo can use "Dance" and "Animal"). New to T-Edition is the ability for Gogo to now equip Eidolons and summon them in battle, as well as now learn magic like any other party member. Although he is a very useful character, his HP, MP, and stats are rather low to offset and balance him. |
| Punishing Meteor | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 62 Additional effect: 16x damage if same level as the target. A terrible spell that calls a Meteor from space to slam into the enemy's head, dealing non-elemental damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect if the enemy's level is the same as yours the damage is multiplied by 16. |
| Umaro |
Yeti |
![]() ![]() |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Snowstorm Deals ice-elemental damage to all enemies with an Effect Value of 71. Although Umaro can't use Magic during battle this attack is useful even if it's only for ice-elemental damage. Throw Ally By equipping the accessory "Berserker Ring" Umaro gains the chance to throw an ally for extra damage when using the Fight command. This is a powerful attack that ignores defense. Rampage By equipping the accessory "Power Belt" the ability "Rampage" may activate when using the Fight command. This technique hits all enemies with physical damage. Useful in normal battles. |
|
Unlike the original game Umaro can now change equipment as well as be controlled in battle making him much more useful. On top of being able to now equip Axes he can also equip even more accessories than in the original. If you equip both the accessories "Berserker Ring" and "Power Belt" the "Ally Throw" command will activate rarely over Rampage and a normal attack. Umaro can now equip Eidolons to summon them in battle just like Gogo, as well as learn magic just like any other character now. Umaro's best feature is his beastly HP and Strength which will reach 9999 earlier than any other character. |
| Aura Boost | |
![]() |
Effect Value: 61 Additional effect: Berserk. A technique that releases energy from the body at the enemy, dealing non-elemental damage and ignoring defense. As an additional effect it also sets Berserk. This is a new Desperation Attack added for Umaro since he didn't have one in the original game. |
